It's now March of 2016. Miriam has had her adventures as Sniperbadger; but the whole Flippo family is still dealing with the fallout of the Hebbleskins' attempt five months prior to capture Gerosha. Candi is still agonizing over the miscarriage of her daughter, Angie, while continuing to serve time at Madison Juvenile - as part of her plea deal to save her godfather, Imaki, from malicious prosecution under the Kirby Act. When Darius reneges on a promise, however, Candi finds herself not only unable to communicate with Imaki directly, but unable to return home with him at the completion of her programs! With Erin also being robbed of custody of Candi, she finds herself a homeless orphan with no family! Per IDOC policy and Indiana juvenile state law, Candi needs to find a new family to adopt her, if she is ever to leave prison before the age of 19! But there are some silver linings to her clouds. Her cellmate, Nancy, establishes contact with Imaki behind Darius' back. Corrections officer Paul Driveway, secretly the vigilante "Goatgruff," is appropriating her old suit's equipment from lockup to improve his side operation, while Nancy works with Imaki to make significant upgrades to Candi's Ciem suit and arsenal. Candi has considerable moral support from the "Last Legs," a clique of do-gooders she forged for herself after reforming Amirah "Flintirah" Rose's old Sparks of Vengeance gang. Candi needs to go to court to enter the SCALLOP Mission Furloughs program; so that when the world needs Ciem again, she can resume her old job - and then return to prison immediately afterward until her program conditions are satisfied.

Yet, the crew at Madison Juvenile aren't the only parties in town that have to worry about what the Triumvirate is up to next! The Sodality Church has stolen intel from the Icy Finger on the next major Screwworm operation; but it's encoded...in Hawaiian! The Screwworms know that someone near Madison is involved in exposing the encoded data about the next hit, and are plotting attacks on Madison to weed out whomever they believe is responsible! It will take both Ciem and Goatgruff working together to protect the Sodality Church! SCALLOP personnel soon realize, however, that their best bet to decode the drive is to recruit Pakulihi Lekaho - the old shark lord of Hawaii better known as "Kamohoalii" - to explain the drive's mythological riddles. To do this, they offer Isitoq "Anarteq" Sundue a chance to get his cousin, Jissika "Nemara" Sundue, out of her prison cell in Sault Ste. Marie - if he'll agree to travel to Hawaii and win over the shark lord's trust! Paku shares a lot of information with Izzy after they meet; but it soon becomes clear to them that something more menacing is afoot than they'd hoped for. The duo's decoding seems to indicate that the valid attack implied on the drive as being Rappaccini's next move will be none other than Ka Kaiakahinali'i Lua: the Second Great Flood (of Fire)! Kamohoalii fears this means only one thing: the much-dreaded Heart of Pele necklace - one of the Icy Finger's most deadly possessions - will be used to instigate volcanic destruction! But where? And who will wield its power? Solving this mystery in time could make all the difference between saving a neighborhood, or saving the world! What the Order of the Oraphim, the Sodality Church, and the Last Legs all know for certain is this: they are now in Kahoopiliana: the time before the cinders fall!

This work was first proposed in 2019, to bridge the gap between Ciem: Inferno and Ciem: Ash Cloud, as well as that between Anarteq: Guardian of the Soo and Anarteq: Tropic Mercenary. It was at one point also going to tie in with The Making of the Forfica.
